Leading the Way in Sports Medicine

The Hughston Foundation was the first training venue of its kind in sports medicine, and, in 1960, Dr. Hughston developed a fellowship to educate physicians wishing to pursue orthopedic sports medicine. The fellowship has endured, offering its recipients a firm foundation in basic science, anatomy, physical diagnosis, and imaging interpretation, as well as deductive reasoning and surgical indication. Additional topics include refinement of surgical skills and techniques, comprehensive rehabilitation protocols, and defining the role of sports medicine specialists within an athletic program. Dynamic faculty, outstanding leadership, cutting-edge patient care, and innovative medical education are just a few reasons why these positions are filled 2 years in advance. Over our 59-year history, the Hughston Foundation has trained more than 500 national and international fellows in orthopedic sports medicine. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has accredited the program for the fellowship positions.
